A short tale about an iconic ship

By Jeff Boulter

Voyages over the great ocean expanse are a thing that humans have been doing since the first sea worthy boat was created. Jean Vaucher wrote a piece about the History of Ships, and stated that the first water vessels were recorded around 8,000 BCE, these were very crude raft like vessels but nonetheless it’s what began the human race to travel on water. There is no exact date on ocean voyages but Thor Heyerdahl, a Norwegian ethnographer and adventurer theorizes that humans as long as 6,000 years ago could have accomplished such feats in reed and leather boats, these first humans were either extremely courageous or very dimwitted.

Modern voyages have become normal, from shipping product all over the world like giant oil tankers shipping all over, containers leaving china full of iPhone's to arrive in California, and ocean-liner cruises taking people on some extremely breathtaking adventures. One of the most famous of these Cruise ships, next to the Titanic, was the RMS Queen Mary. The Queen Mary now sits and is permanently docked in the Port of Long Beach, though it was one of the top elite cruise ships that sailed on the North Atlantic Ocean for most of its active life, wikipedia says that this span of time was from 1936 to 1967.
